How a share pays
At 23:59 UTC on the last day of the month, trading stops and every share pays out on the debater's rating at that minute. An Up share pays from 0 points at a 1200 rating to 100 points at 1900. A Down share pays the rest, so one Up and one Down always pay 100 together. If a debater has no rating at the close, everyone gets back what they paid.
Prices
Every trade moves the price. Buying Up raises it and buying Down lowers it. Bigger orders move it more, so the confirm screen shows the average price you will actually pay. Rating value is what an Up share would pay if the month closed now; the gap is how far the price sits from it.
Where the points come from
Debatable puts a fixed amount behind each debater's shares and takes nothing from any trade or payout, so we gain nothing from who turns out to be good. The same rule applies to the judge whose decisions move ratings: see
how judging works.
Who can trade
Anyone with an account who is 18 or older, where trading is allowed. You cannot trade shares in yourself, or in anyone you have debated here, in any kind of round, because the people in a round decide its result. Points are free, cannot be bought, sold, sent to anyone or exchanged for money or prizes, and can be reset or removed. No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited. See
free points in the Terms.
