What happened to Omegle
Omegle ran for 14 years and shut down for good in November 2023. Its founder's farewell letter was blunt: the site's openness was being abused, and the cost of fighting that abuse had become unsustainable. No official successor exists. What filled the gap was a wave of clones copying the same shape: a camera, a stranger, and nothing to do.
The magic was never the chaos
What people actually miss about Omegle is specific: instant pairing, zero setup, and a stranger who owes you nothing. That combination is electric. You cannot perform for a stranger the way you perform for your followers.
The aimlessness is what rotted. No topic, no purpose, no reason for the other person to be there. Every conversation started from zero and most ended in three seconds of silence and a skip.

Same roulette, different game
On Debatable's matchmaker you hit Find and get paired with a random debater on live video, usually in under a minute when anyone else is online. Then the difference starts. A motion appears. You take a side. Speeches run on a clock. When the round ends, an AI judge writes a ballot: who won, why, speaker points, and one drill to work on before your next round.
If nobody is online, an AI opponent steps in, always clearly labeled. Or skip live entirely: record a 90-second opening as an async round and a real person answers on their own time.

Why strangers behave better here
Structure does most of the moderating that raw roulette never could. A person who clicked Find to argue a motion is a different person from one who clicked to lurk. There is a topic, a timer, a judge watching the round, and a purpose that filters the room before anyone connects.
To be clear about what this is not: it is not a place to meet anonymous strangers for anything other than an argument. That is the point.
The bigger picture
Debatable is built by competitive debaters as training infrastructure for arguing out loud. The same rooms that pair two strangers at midnight serve school squads running practice rounds, and the AI judge means any room on earth can run a judged debate without waiting for a human judge to be free.
